Active Acne, Marks and Scars: Different Concerns

Active Acne, Marks and Scars: Different Concerns

Separate three different concerns

Active acne means ongoing spots. Flat red or darker marks after spots are colour changes, while depressed or raised acne scars involve changes in skin texture. More than one concern can be present at the same time, but they should not all be called scars or treated as one problem.

Address ongoing acne first

Persistent, deep or painful acne, new scarring or substantial distress needs medical assessment. Getting active acne under control is an important part of planning scar treatment. Cosmetic skincare and a scar procedure are not substitutes for an appropriate acne-treatment plan.

What everyday care can do

Avoid picking or squeezing and use gentle, tolerable skincare. Protect exposed skin with broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher alongside shade and clothing. Sunscreen does not remove scars, and no cream, serum or home remedy should promise to rebuild every depressed scar or flatten every raised one.

Planning for the remaining marks or scars

An assessment should identify the scar or colour change, your skin's healing history, medicines and previous procedures. Different scars may need different approaches, and improvement is not guaranteed. Microdermabrasion is a surface treatment and does not treat acne scars. No universal best combination, session count or recovery time can be chosen from this page.
