Acne and Skincare: Common Myths and Limits
Acne and Skincare: Common Myths and Limits
Acne is not a cleanliness test
Acne can affect adults as well as teenagers. It is not proof that someone is dirty or failing to take care of themselves. Repeated washing or scrubbing can irritate skin and is not a reliable route to clearing acne.
Picking and tanning are not solutions
Do not squeeze or pick spots. A tan or temporary change in how skin looks is not a treatment for acne. Protect exposed skin with broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher and use shade and clothing as well.
A perfect routine is not a cure
A toner, regular acid exfoliation or a large collection of products is not essential for everyone. No amount of extra water, detoxing or dietary restriction should be promised to clear every case. Use gentle products you tolerate and avoid escalating strength or frequency to force an improvement.
The emotional impact matters
Persistent acne, pain, scarring or distress is a valid reason to seek medical advice. You do not need to wait until acne is severe enough for someone else to notice. A medical assessment can consider the diagnosis and options without blaming you for the condition.
