Acne-Prone and Sensitive Skin: Care Considerations
Acne-Prone and Sensitive Skin: Care Considerations
Sensitivity changes the decision
Acne-prone skin can also feel dry, sore or sensitive. Those descriptions do not identify the cause of a rash or determine which active ingredient to use. Persistent burning, itching or redness should not automatically be labelled acne or a necessary adjustment to a product.
Avoid assuming natural means gentle
Essential oils, kitchen masks and fragrance can cause reactions. A product described as natural, non-comedogenic or suitable for sensitive skin still may not suit you. Testing a small area does not rule out all later reactions.
Use a manageable routine
Gentle cleansing and a tolerated moisturiser are preferable to scrubbing or repeatedly adding strong products. Follow the actual product instructions and avoid combining several exfoliating or drying products without advice. Stop an irritating cosmetic product; seek help for a significant or persistent reaction.
Separate cosmetic comfort from acne treatment
Deep or painful spots, ongoing acne, scarring or significant distress deserve medical assessment. A professional can review the diagnosis, current products and medicines. This page does not recommend a medicine, a fixed strength or a procedure for every sensitive or acne-prone skin type.
