What does 'scar cream' mean?

A cream advertised for acne scars may be aimed at colour, dryness or skin feel. Those are different from a depressed scar or a raised scar. The words 'scar removal' do not prove that a product can erase a scar or restore lost skin tissue.

Check the finished product

Look at the current label, intended use and evidence for the exact formulation. A familiar ingredient or a higher percentage is not enough to establish benefit or suitability. Follow the actual product directions; do not increase the strength or frequency simply because results are slow.

Irritation is not progress

Burning, persistent stinging, swelling or a worsening rash should not be accepted as proof of renewal. Stop an irritating cosmetic product and seek advice if the reaction persists or is significant. Testing a small area does not guarantee that a product cannot cause a reaction later.

When a scar needs assessment

Persistent texture changes, raised scars or uncertainty about a mark need an appropriate assessment. Active acne should be managed before scar procedures are planned.
