Choosing a Cream for Ageing, Sensitive Skin
Choosing a Cream for Ageing, Sensitive Skin
Comfort before extra products
Sensitive skin describes how skin reacts; it is not one diagnosis or a promise that a particular cream will suit you. Start with products you tolerate rather than adding several anti-ageing ingredients at once. Persistent stinging, itching or a rash deserves assessment.
Keep expectations realistic
A moisturiser can help dry skin feel more comfortable and make dryness-related lines less noticeable. That does not mean a cream reverses ageing or guarantees collagen rebuilding. Ingredient names, a sensitive-skin label and a high price do not prove the finished product will work for you.
Introduce changes carefully
Follow the product instructions and introduce one change at a time. Trying a small area first may help reveal a reaction, but it cannot guarantee future tolerance or replace clinical allergy testing. Stop a new cosmetic product if it causes a reaction and seek advice if symptoms persist or are severe.
Sun protection still matters
Use suitable sun protection, including shade, clothing and a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher sunscreen that you tolerate. A serum or an ordinary moisturiser without an SPF claim does not replace sunscreen.
A 24-hour check is not clearance
One day without a reaction cannot establish that a cream is safe for every future use. Follow the product instructions; claims such as calming or anti-ageing are not guarantees of irritation-free results.
- Choose a simple routine that you tolerate.
- Follow product instructions and introduce changes carefully.
- Seek advice about persistent or worsening symptoms.
