Is There a Best Treatment for Stretch Marks?
Is There a Best Treatment for Stretch Marks?
Is there a best treatment?
There is no single best treatment for every stretch mark or every person. A claim that a cream, laser, peel or needling treatment is the best does not show that it suits your skin. Start by confirming what the marks are and whether you want any cosmetic treatment.
What stretch marks are
Stretch marks, also called striae, are a type of scar. They can develop during rapid changes in body size, including growth spurts, pregnancy or weight changes. Their colour and texture can change with time. They often become less noticeable, but natural fading is different from complete removal.
Compare the whole option
Ask what improvement is realistically possible, what may remain unchanged, and how benefits and risks were assessed. A more intensive or expensive procedure is not automatically a better choice. Combining treatments also needs its own assessment; it is not a routine route to a better result.
Creams and home care
Many products sold for stretch marks do not produce the promised change. Moisturising is different from removing a scar. Cocoa butter, olive oil and vitamin E should not be relied on to remove or prevent stretch marks. Do not copy a home needling, acid, scrub or medicine routine from a general article. Check products with a healthcare professional during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Before choosing a procedure
Ask about the exact proposed procedure, evidence for your concern, possible unwanted effects, recovery, alternatives and the option of no treatment. A laser or other device name does not establish suitability for your skin or this body area. This information does not confirm that any particular procedure or device is offered locally.
Your specific question
Do not start a prescription medicine or use a home dermaroller on the assumption that it is an over-the-counter solution. Ask for advice before considering an active product or procedure.
