Perioral Dermatitis Causes
Perioral Dermatitis Causes
What is known and what is uncertain
The cause of perioral dermatitis is not fully understood. Some medicines and facial products may be relevant, but an association does not prove what caused an individual rash. A list of possible triggers is not a diagnostic test.
Review the sequence
Note when symptoms began, which areas are affected and what changed beforehand. Take the exact names of skincare, makeup and medicines to a GP or dermatologist, including prescribed facial creams, inhalers and nasal sprays. Longstanding products may also be worth discussing.
Avoid a trial-and-error treatment plan
Do not stop prescribed medicines, change toothpaste or exclude food groups simply because a website names them as causes. Discuss suspected medicine effects with the prescriber and dental-product questions with a dentist. There is no routine infection, hormone or nutritional diagnosis established by this page.
Questions for assessment
Ask whether the appearance fits perioral dermatitis or another condition, which products are relevant, and how to review progress. A record of symptoms can help the conversation; it cannot establish that stress, diet, water hardness or a particular ingredient caused the rash.
Medical assessment and cosmetic care
Dr Sknn is an aesthetics and cosmetics clinic. This information is not a diagnosis or an offer of medical dermatitis treatment. Ask your GP or dermatologist about an unexplained or persistent rash before deciding whether cosmetic treatment is appropriate.
More than a bacterial explanation
A facial rash is not proof of a bacterial infection. Choosing an antibiotic or antifungal product requires an appropriate assessment.
