Does Fat Freezing Work? Evidence and Limits
Does Fat Freezing Work? Evidence and Limits
What counts as a result?
Some cryolipolysis devices can reduce selected local fat bulges in suitable people. That does not establish that every machine, area or person will respond. A published percentage for a particular study cannot be used as your expected result. Discuss the exact system, what evidence relates to the proposed area and how any change would be assessed.
A contour change is not weight loss
This procedure is not treatment for obesity, internal abdominal fat or a general health or fitness problem. Skin laxity, muscle shape and cellulite may explain an appearance concern that a cooling treatment will not reliably address. Results can be modest or absent. An early lack of change does not automatically justify more sessions; reassessment is preferable to a promised course or guaranteed reduction.
Risks of cryolipolysis
Controlled cooling can cause harm even though it does not require an incision. Possible problems include pain, bruising, swelling, altered sensation, cold burns and an uneven contour. A delayed firm enlargement of the treated area, called paradoxical adipose hyperplasia, can occur instead of reduction and may require surgery; correction is not assured. Ask who will assess a complication and how follow-up is arranged. Choosing no treatment is an option.
Individual assessment and aftercare
An assessment should review the proposed area, skin and circulation, previous procedures, medical conditions and medicines. Cold-related disorders, poor circulation and a hernia or weakness near an abdominal treatment area can make cooling unsuitable. Tell the practitioner about pregnancy or breastfeeding. Follow the instructions for the actual device and your individual plan; do not stop prescribed medicines or add massage, compression or extreme cooling on the basis of a general article. This information does not confirm that a particular device or treatment is offered at a Dr Sknn clinic.
