Hair Loss Treatments

Hair Loss Treatments

Start with the cause of the change

Hair shedding, gradual thinning and patchy loss can have different explanations. Medical assessment may be needed to distinguish them. A product or procedure cannot be selected reliably from the appearance of hair loss alone.

Separate cosmetic care from regrowth

Gentle care can reduce added damage to existing hair. Styling, hairpieces and camouflage may change how hair looks. These aims are different from treating a cause of hair loss or producing new growth, and a fuller appearance is not proof that follicles have recovered.

Compare evidence for the exact option

If a procedure, device or medical treatment is proposed, ask what evidence relates to your assessed concern, what its limitations and risks are, and how progress would be reviewed. Evidence for one method or condition cannot be applied to every product, device or type of loss.

Keep the decision individual

Discuss costs, ongoing commitments and your priorities. Medicines require advice appropriate to the actual product and your circumstances; this page does not recommend a medicine or a treatment course. No approach can guarantee regrowth for everyone.
